DULUX DIALOGUE ON TOUR – 2016 AWARD WINNER

DULUX DIALOGUE ON TOUR – 2016 AWARD WINNER

Dulux DIAlogue on Tour is an inspirational study tour prize, exclusive to DIA and DINZ members across Australia and New Zealand, which takes five winning design professionals overseas to meet and learn from international design talent.

In 2016 Scott Bagnell, Design Director of Koda Design Interiors, was awarded this prize and visited and met with leading international design firms in London and Stockholm. Along with four other DIA designers from Australia and New Zealand, Scott was given the exclusive opportunity to discover the latest design and interiors trends first hand and discuss professional practice with some of the leaders in the fields of Architecture, Interiors and Product Design.

Scott said “I am incredibly honoured to have won the inaugural Dulux and the Design Institute of Australia ‘DIAlogue on Tour’ Prize which has significantly contributed to my professional practice in so many ways.”

“Scandinavian design has always had a place in my heart, with a love for the wonderful bold patterns of Marimekko Fabric, iconic furniture of Arne Jacobsen and stunning product design by Georg Jensen.“ Scott Said. “Denmark was recently declared the happiest state in the world according to a report conducted by UN on World Happiness, Norway followed in the second place and Sweden in fifth place. Design, I believe, must have a positive influence in contributing to this state of happiness and this was an amazing opportunity to discover how and share my happiness discovery with designers back in Australia.”

Scott visited practices including AHMM, David Collins, Tom Dixon & Design Research Studio, Stanton Williams, Supergroup , Universal Design Studio, Mentsen , Hand & Eye, Howl & FranklyClaesson Koivisto RuneClara von Zweigbergk and Shane Schneck, Tham & Videgård Arkitekter, and Form us with love.

Scott said “The experience of the tour for me was completely reviving. One of the most amazing gifts a designer can experience is travel. To be able to discover and understand the world through a different lens and culture provides a new perspective to inspire new ways of thinking. Sharing this experience with peers, and now friends, elevated this experience and learning to a whole new level. Engaging, one on one, with leading design professionals and practices you read about in magazines was one of the most awe-inspiring experiences of my life.”
