AKALA STREET HOUSE

AKALA STREET HOUSE

Akala St house challenges the idea of the traditional Queenslander.

Zoned for character but surrounded by contemporary, more modern buildings, the clients brief was to find a nice medium for their family home.

Koda responded to the clients brief through taking elements of the character Queenslander: roof pitch, horizontal cladding and inter-twining them with more contemporary, edgy forms and materials.

Internally the layout was kept open and comfortable with clear definition between the public and private spaces. The light colour palette exaggerates the open, free flowing nature of the design, using timber feature elements to generate warmth and comfort.
